Wheel stud replacement

Do I need to remove the e-brake or hub to change the the wheel stud on the rear disk brakes of my 2005 Ford explorer? If not, what is the best location for the stud to be in for replacement?

Twice in the last 2 years I've had multiple wheel studs snap while driving. Both times the right rear wheel was involved. Both incidents occured about a month after having tires rotated. The tires were changed at a different shop. Any thoughts?

Could be the tires were overtorqued and weakened the studs causing them to brake under the right strain or circumstance, such as a bump. Or if one is torqued very very tight, and the rest loosely the tight one may snap.
