Hello! My car is making a sound when I go from a stop to a start. It’s been doing this for a while now, my TCS and ABS light are both on. I will try to send a video. The best way I can describe it is a thump towards the front of the car, definitely coming from under the hood or that general area. It happens whenever I accelerate from being stopped, and also when I am reversing out of my driveway. It seems like when the car is on an incline, the sound is more pronounced. But yeah, it doesn’t happen when the car is in continuous motion, only after I stop and then right when I accelerate again. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks!

Here is a video. You can hear the sound clearly at the 10 second, 24 second mark and at the very end right before the video cuts off. The loudest sound in the video is me shifting gears so don’t pay attention to that.

Hi:

I did hear it. Since this only happens when you first start moving, the first thing I recommend is to lift the front of the vehicle and check if there is play (back and forth) in either of the front wheels. Place your hands at 3 and 9 o'clock and wiggle. Do the same with your hands at 6 and 12 o'clock.

Next, check to make sure the axles are in good condition. Inspect the rubber CV boot at each end of the axle to see if there is a loss of grease.

Also, when you have one wheel safely off the ground, place a pry bar between the tire and the road and pry the wheel up and down to make sure there isn't any play in the ball joints.

One other thought. Make sure none of the bushings on the lower control arm are worn or damaged as well. I attached a pic below showing the suspension components to check.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
